For the most part, I agree with teh most interesting people. However, it is interesting that all of the sudden Dr Alford-Smith is on the list.
Not one thing listed that she allegedly did is "new" to Girl Scouting. It has been around for years. I was taught 'financial literacy' when I was Girl Scout 30+ years ago selling cookies before GSNEO/GSUSA even coined the term.
What I do find interesting is that the CEO of GSNEO doesn't like to camp and is leading the charge to close camps and make the remaining ones into "mini-corporate Americas" by jazzing them up with computers and making them spa like facilities and turning her back on Girl Scouting traditions.
There is a time and a place for everything. Camping is a long held- technology-free tradition. It empowers girls to learn and try new things. Sitting in front of a computer screen and getting nails and hair done (yes this was discussed at a planning session) definitely does not.
Save our camps Dr Alford-Smith. Not every girl aspires and dreams of being CEO's. Some want to be Geologists, Land Surveyors or even everyday workers who have exceptional outdoor skills thanks to Girl Scouts. Not every girl wants to follow in your footsteps. I didn't and I am proud of it thanks to my Girl Scout leaders when I was younger.
