Ellis Cooley, 31
Amp 150 executive chef
How he caught our eye: This witty charmer knows how to whip up a gourmet feast and keep things hot, but we're not talking about the kitchen.
The perfect date: Sunday afternoon, first-base side at the Indians game
Something most people don't know about me: I'm actually a very kind person even though I don't come off as such, and I speak fluent Spanish.
My passion: Life. I enjoy people and interactions with people.
Biggest turn-on: Approachability and personality. I guess that sounds cliché, but it's true.
Biggest turnoff: Drama
I own too many: Shoes, well sneakers. I probably have 50 or 60 pairs.
My favorite ...
... place in Cleveland : Anytime I leave Cleveland, immediately I miss Cleveland and everything about it. I love the kitchen at Amp 150. I think that's my favorite place.
... book: I love David Sedaris books; they're funny. Me Talk Pretty Someday got me started.
... musician/band: The Rolling Stones
... sports team: I plead the fifth on this question.
... TV show: Seinfeld
... vacation destination: Vienna, Austria. It's amazing there. I've lived and been all over Europe several times, and there's nowhere in the world like Vienna. The people are super cool; the history and architecture is amazing.
... dessert: Jeni's Ice Cream. It's a brand based out of Columbus, and it's absolutely delicious.
... blog: I read a lot of blogs actually; I read a lot of Cleveland blogs. They've been very instrumental in my success, and I appreciate their support, so I try to support them as well.
My usual hangout: The Public House in Kamm's Corners and Greenhouse Tavern. The Public House for the neighborhood atmosphere, and Greenhouse Tavern for the food and beers.
In high school I was ... all over the place, involved all sorts of things in and out of school.
And now I'm ... still all over the place.
My best feature: My hands. People tell me that a lot. The career I have is through them.
My bad habit: Sarcasm. This interview could be going a lot differently if I was being sarcastic.
My first kiss: I have absolutely no recollection. I was probably younger, but I really have no clue.
My guilty pleasure: Dirty martinis and Twix, but not together.
How my ex would describe me: A lot to deal with, too much energy and random. My mind moves too fast. I say whatever I think; I'm a very steam-of-conscious talker.
Going out or staying in: Going out. Always, always.
Early, late or right on time: Right on time
Dogs or cats: I don't like animals, I don't like to deal with them. I'm just really busy. I'd rather have friends around for companionship.
Dancing ... yes or no?: I like ballroom and shag dancing, which is like swing.
Twitter ... yes or no?: Absolutely with a lot of exclamations behind it. A lot of my clientele has come through Twitter. Twitter is huge. I check it all the time.
My longest relationship: Maybe a couple years
Beer, wine or martinis: Situationally all three, but I find myself drinking more beer, whatever Great Lakes has going for the season, I tend to really like. My favorite is Conway's Irish Ale.
Roses or chocolates: I'm definitely a flowers guy. I like giving flowers to a woman, but I rarely give roses. I think there's a lot of other pretty flowers out there. However, I oftentimes feel obligated to give out Lilly's Chocolates because they are so good.
My No. 1 dating rule: For myself? Try not to talk too much.
My deal-breaker: Drama, past or present, I really don't care about it.
I hate when a date ... is a cold fish. If she's disengaged, it's not going to work.
But I love when a date ... warms up quickly, when's she engaged in the conversation and it flows nicely
Worst pickup line: Not my style. I can't even think of any.
If I could date anyone: Kiera Knightly or Alexa Marinos of Cleveland'sAPlum
On a first date I never ... allow the girl to pay.
Best place to meet someone: Through friends. Having a mutual acquaintance makes things easier.
Most unusual place I've met someone: Probably at an airport bar. We were both going to the same place.
My take on Cleveland's single scene: I think it's good. From personal experience, I think there's a lot of single girls out there. There's a good diversity, and it doesn't seem to be a very materialistic city.
