Walk All Over Waterloo
Reality is not as it appears during this one-night-only installation of art and clothing by printmakers Abigail Clark and Mike Lombardy at the Zygote Press’ Ink House. The exhibit is part of the neighborhood’s Walk All Over Waterloo open house where galleries, performance halls and shops invite explorers in. Be sure to also hit Maria Neil Art Project at the Native Cleveland Annex for the opening reception of artist Riley Kemerling’s Nothing Lovely that takes another look at modern blight. Tired out from all of that ambling around? Collinwood’s Ballot Box Project rickshaws will be ready to give you a ride and drivers will enlighten you with neighborhood history as you go. Free. A New Day in Hough Community Festival
Classical sounds have been filling the streets of Hough since June thanks to this summer’s Cleveland Orchestra At Home residency. On Aug. 6, the orchestra joins hands with the Cleveland Museum of Art’s centennial arts truck, Studio Go, for a collaborative outdoor show in the park featuring solo and chamber music performances. EarthQuaker Day
The Black Keys, Queens of Stone Age and the Flaming Lips turn to Akron’s EarthQuaker Devices company for hand-built guitar effects pedals. Thanks to those the Grammy-winning fans, the company started in an Akron basement is now international. As an appreciation, the company, led by local music whiz Jamie Stillman, is hosting a one-day music festival Aug. 6 to pay respect to the musicians who’ve made popular kooky, grungy and rockin' sounds with these gizmos. The lineup includes bands of EarthQuaker employees in bands such as Stems, Actual Form and Relaxer. Star Wars Tribute Day
The Force is with Coventry Village this weekend. On Aug. 6, come and watch as the neighborhood turns intergalactic for its annual Star Wars Tribute Day with a 10-hour homage event stuffed with trivia battles in Pekar Park and Star Wars: The Force Awakens screening on the lawn. The somewhat older lightsaber-wielders can trek out on a Bar Wars-themed bar crawl. Don’t forget your robes, Jedis. Free. It’s peak season for Cleveland’s outdoor arts, so head to Lincoln Park before the weather chases you indoors.Take in a bard classic with Cleveland Shakespeare Festival’s performance of The Tempest filled with plenty of magic, romance, redemption and forgiveness. The epic vibe continues as aspiring actors and actresses in Cleveland Public Theatre’s Student Theatre Enrichment Program perform their original Gilgamesh-influenced show, Awakening Heart featuring goddesses, spirits and rebels.
