The work of two photographers, one black fine artist and one white journalist, comes to the Cleveland Museum of Art. During the civil rights era, Louis Draper and Leonard Freed captured the progressing New York City, each from different perspectives of culture, yet both interested in similar subjects —summer street scenes, playful teens playing games with cops —detailing a collective vision of urban American life. Chayla Hope & Friends
Although the Seafair frontwoman’s local indie group is on a soon-to-be-ending hiatus, Chayla Hope isn’t taking any breaks. She’s been busy spearheading her first solo show that features an all-female lineup of up-and-coming musicians and friends including Shawn and Shelby cellist Shelby Lynn Sangdahl, Whiskey Hollow’s Madeline Finn and guitarist Kimberly Haffey. Civics, Firebirds, Maseratis, oh my! The city’s beloved annual car show returns with a full showroom of classic, exotic and concept cars, along with on-site tech competitions, Chevy Cruze giveaways, showgirl photo ops and an exclusive chance to do a virtual reality test-drive of a 2017 Honda Civic Si that cruises through Monument Valley, Arizona. And don’t forget the star cameos. Tri-C High School Rock Off Final Exam
Cuyahoga Community College’s longstanding teenage battle of the bands comes to its closing term Feb. 25 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. See 12 finalists picked from four rounds of selections since late January including bands such as the Frats from Avon Lake, Montage from Cleveland School of the Arts and Bucyrus Xband. Besides a $1,000 top prize and a spot at Van’s Warped Tour at Blossom Music Center in July, the winner also gets a chance to open for Bon Jovi in March.
