Reaching Back
Homeless men are the center-stage stars of Cleveland Public Theatre’s current feature. In partnership with Y-Haven, a branch of the Cleveland YMCA specializing in transitional housing, the theater company presents the semiautobiographical Reaching Back, a familial play centered on Lavelle King, who struggles to keep his job as a resurfacing friend-of-the-past seeks his downfall. Hullabaloo
Valerie Mayen’s fifth annual fashion extravaganza returns with a focus on Yellowcake’s Heritage collection, a line of ultra-utilitarian couture made from reclaimed and repurposed garments from five Rust Belt cities including Cleveland. Along with a spectacle of a walk, Hullabaloo offers showgoers a chance to bid and buy unique merch, munch on macaroons, sip Champagne and chitchat with local designers. Stick around for a post-show dance party too. A portion of the proceeds helps the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and the bar proceeds are donated to PMP Cancer Research Foundation. $30. For Freedoms
With Election Day already coming up Nov. 8, New York City-based visual artist Hank Willis Thomas returns to the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland with to host a town hall forum run by his artist super PAC, For Freedoms. The election-related talk features other panelists, such as Amanda King, the visionary of the local youth urban photo project Shooting Without Bullets, and it centers on activism and role of the artist within American politics. Cleveland Dance Fest
After offering free master classes for the past few weeks, the Movement Project is ready to step off this performance at the inaugural Cleveland Dance Fest.
