Soul Asylum at Venice Cafe
Kent’s beloved bar and pool hall celebrates its 75th anniversary as one of the college town’s relatively unscathed dives. Ushering in the celebration is Soul Asylum front man Dave Pirner — writer of alt-rock ‘90s hits such as “Runaway Train” and “Black Gold” — with a an intimate acoustic set. Uptown RootsFest
Banjo pickers, cajon smackers and guitar strummers are making their way to University Circle this weekend. From inside the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland to a stage at Happy Dog at the Euclid Tavern, bluegrass-country groups such as New Soft Shoe and High Plains Jamboree and reggae dudes such as Shakka Hasberry and JR Blessington, play to rekindle the zest in American folk music via a two-day fest. Spooky Pooch Parade
Trick or doggy treat? It’s all up to the pet owner choosing to walk their beloved pup in Saturday’s canine-themed Halloween parade. Wrapping around Lakewood’s downtown district, the parade invites dog owners and lovers to march up and down Detroit Avenue in appropriate garb. Cleveland Beer Week
The undisputed king city of Midwestern craft brew celebrates its glamour with a week-long party dedicated to beer. Starting today, the seven-day homage kicks off with five around-town bar crawls, covering Downtown Willoughby, Ohio City, Tremont, Lakewood and Flats East Bank. On Saturday, the festivities continue with a Belgium Social at Butcher and the Brewer, featuring European-style brews from Duvel, Cleveland Brewing Co. and more. October 14-22.
