Rebel Wear

What many may regard as a tired, lifeless leather jacket, George Mauersberger sees as the epitome of the American rebel — cool and sexy, with a side of danger. USA Leather and Other Drawings, debuting at the Bonfoey Gallery on Nov. 16, captures the spirit of Americana with compelling realism. "The black leather jacket began with Marlon Brando, then Bruce Springsteen and later the Ramones," says Mauersberger. "Today it's adopted by young folks who are finding their way in the world and rebelling." For the eight-drawing series, Mauersberger rendered the leather jacket in black and white using different materials, including charcoal, pastel and scratchboard. Running through Jan. 5, the exhibit also features pieces from his illusionary Wallflower and USA Work series. 1710 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 216-621-0178,
