(Foodie Forum) Trash Talker

Oberlin: Toss the junk food, ditch the preservatives and head to Oberlin College for a talk by Michael Pollan. If the name doesn’t sound familiar to you, he’s the best-selling author of In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto and The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals. Both attempt to reteach healthful eating to a culture dependent on processed cuisine. During the free event, Pollan will address issues such as the importance of eating plants and limiting portions. “The modern food landscape is perplexing and treacherous,” he says. “I’ll talk about how it got that way and how people can navigate it, making food choices that will contribute to both their own health and the health of the environment.” Oct. 28, 8 p.m., Oberlin College, Finney Chapel, 90 N. Professor St., Oberlin, (440) 775-6785
