Best Of CLE: Beer Series

Drink at Terrestrial Brewing Co. to support the Cleveland Zoological Society.

Giving back to wildlife and the environment — we’ll drink to that.

Terrestrial Brewing Co. and the Cleveland Zoological Society have joined forces for the brewery’s Conservation Series. The special brews celebrate occasions such as World Giraffe Day and World Earth Day.

Ten percent of the beers’ sales go directly to the nonprofit for animal and environmental research. For inspiration, co-owners Ralph Sgro and Ryan Bennett visited the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, where they had a chance to observe animals.

After learning about a creature’s habits, diet and quirks, brewmaster Sgro gets to work. His first beer, Probiotic Warrior, was a refreshing sour with probiotics and clover honey, inspired by the digestive system of a sloth bear. Look for more Conservation Beer to be tapped in the next few months.

“We have a small system here. It’s only five barrels, which is one of the smallest in the city,” Sgro says. “It allows us to do really creative stuff.” 7524 Father Frascati Drive, Cleveland, 216-465-9999, facebook.com/terrestrialbrewing
