Best of Cleveland 2014: Stromboli

Stromboli
While we kind of have a foodie crush on Crumb & Spigot's entire menu of mashed-up comfort foods, our hearts beat a little faster for the Bainbridge spot's twist on stromboli. Forget your heavy pasta sauce and other Italian fixings - this pocket full of goodness features other worldly ingredients. The Pastromboli ($12) gets pumped full of thick slices of Romanian red pastrami, a salty and spicy delicacy that anchors the whole dish. Tangy fresh sauerkraut, a layer of grain mustard and melty Jarlsberg cheese complete the masterpiece. It receives a quick toast in the restaurant's wood-burning pizza oven before being served with a side of slaw and pickles, both of which are just as addictive as the main entree. "I love corned beef, but pastrami is just better," says co-owner and sous chef Ryan King. "Imagine the world's best Reuben, just elevated and turned up." 16783 Chillicothe Road, Bainbridge, 440-384-3035, crumbandspigot.com
