Best Of Cleveland: Cookie Dough

Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes' egg-free cookie dough is our favorite kind of dessert — the kind you don't have to wait to eat.

Sometimes the sweetest treats are forbidden. Hence our obsession with cookie dough, the unbaked treat and possible salmonella agent that we’ve snuck guiltily since childhood — until now. Thanks to Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes’ Rocky River location, we can gorge uninhibited on 3-ounce servings of decadent cookie dough ($3.50) in chocolate chip, Funfetti cake batter, Reese’s Pieces and a half-brownie, half-chocolate chip variation. We snack guilt-free thanks to a no-egg recipe that also uses heat-treated flour, which is first baked at a temperature that kills off any bacteria before being mixed into the dough. “It’s really my mom’s and grandma’s recipes that have been handed down for a very long time and adapted to make it edible,” says Elizabeth. “They’re not just old-fashioned Toll House cookie dough.” Served in circular containers with gold lids and an attached mini spoon, Kelsey Elizabeth’s version is a decidely chic update on our guilty pleasure. That doesn’t mean one bite won’t make you feel like a kid again. 20033 Detroit Road, Rocky River, 216-767-5633, kelseyelizabethcakes.com
