Chill Out

It looks like the classic ice cream stand: walk-up orders only, a few picnic tables outside. But what's going on at Ohio City Ice Cream Co. is not your average soft-serve cone. The two dozen flavors on the menu include peanut butter brownie and pistachio, but owner Bob Mino also adds an ethnic touch with Day of the Dead Calabaza reminiscent of pumpkin pie and Baklava Crunch. "I make the baklava from scratch, chop it up really fine and roll it into the ice cream, and then swirl it with orange blossom, date, lemon zest and lemon sugar," he says, adding that he's toying with flan and sweetened rice flavors as well. "I'm hoping to add a lot of the things that are culturally significant in Cleveland into ice cream making."
