With a name like Express Deli, it’s no wonder this business prides itself on speedy, efficient service. “The concept behind Express Deli is to get people in and out as quickly as they need,” says Micho Aboukhaled, who, along with his parents, runs the 23-year-old Brook Park-based convenience store.

Aboukhaled estimates that about 90% of the business is carryout. While there are a handful of tables, they tend to get used only by the rare long-distance visitor. Many first-time guests avail themselves of the “sandwich flight,” a platter containing four bite-size versions of the deli’s top sellers. This popular mom-and-pop-deli excels at classic sandwiches with a subtly Middle Eastern kiss.

In place of white, wheat or rye bread, there’s fresh pita. The house dressing contains earthy, regional spices. And then there’s the dreamy garlic sauce with roots in Lebanese toum. Soon, a new online portal will facilitate ordering and payment so that takeout customers can grab, go and gobble.

Try This: The Reuben Wrap ($9.50) is a tightly twisted pita stuffed with warm, thinly sliced corned beef, sauerkraut, garlic mayo and Thousand Island dressing.
