Order up — just don’t try to bring the accordion home with you. The Cleveland outpost of Hof-brauhaus is best known for its live polka, restaurant-spanning communal dining tables and German beers. While nabbing takeout from the downtown spot means skipping the festive dine-in experience, you won’t miss out on Hofbrauhaus’ enormous schnitzel dinners and malt-forward German beers, brewed in-house and available to go in growlers and liter-sized crowlers.

“We have plenty of beer in our tanks,” says Andi Udris, president of downtown’s Hofbrauhaus. The German restaurant’s takeout menu revolves around salads, sandwiches and ample family-sized portions (serving up to 10) of sausage and schnitzel, accompanied by pretzels, cheese and potato-based sides. “Our portions are so large at the restaurant that people take them home,” Udris says. But with takeout options, “it’ll be hot and people can eat them at home.”

Try This: The Bierhalle Burger ($13.99) delights with a sweet German mustard, Swiss cheese, Gouda, let-tuce, tomato and Dunkel beer-glazed onions.
