With a mission of crafting unique, approachable, creative and comforting foods made from the highest quality ingredients, the folks at Larder Delicatessen and Bakery are hoping that diners experience joy when they are seated at one of the 26 seats in the historic Ohio City Firehouse in Hingetown. But they also are keen on their customers having exactly the same flavors if they are taking their food to go.

“There shouldn’t be a difference in experience between eating our food at your house or eating here on-site,” says James Beard Award-nominated co-chef and co-owner Jeremy Umansky. “No matter where you eat it, you still get the Larder experience, which is delicious.” From the meat boards, with assorted charcuterie, pickles, cheese and bread, to the fried chicken and Larder sauce, to the densely rich chocolate babka, everything can be carried out.

Since opening in 2018, 50% of its business has relied on takeout options, which includes a fully stocked grocery. Reflecting its commitment to the environment, Larder’s seasonal menu even features locally sourced and foraged meats and produce all packed in compostable containers.

Try This: The pastrami sandwich ($13) is only four ingredients — certified angus beef brisket, rye bread, sauerkraut and mustard — but it’s wonderfully complex in flavor.
