Data Center growth pushes out small businesses in Downtown Cleveland.
Development | By Ken Prendergast, NEOTrans
Downtown Cleveland’s largest data center is about to get bigger. And, as part of that expansion, it’s evicting small businesses and proposing to demolish a row of storefronts along a major Downtown street.
More Land: H5 Data Centers’ Cleveland Data Center, 1625 Rockwell Ave., already owns 2.4 acres of land at the east edge of Downtown for its 351,000-square-foot facility.
It seeks to demolish five retail spaces after acquiring another 0.75 acres of land, divided between a retail property at 1536-40 St. Clair and a second, larger property at 1616-36 St. Clair, each of which houses several active businesses that had to quickly find new accommodations.
On The Way Out: To make way for the expansion, it is evicting several businesses. Among those in H5’s way are or were Cleveland Safe/Cleveland Key & Security, Ambitious Ink Printing Company, Kk Lustrouz Kollection clothier and Spaces & Co.
Mark Brajdich, Owner of Cleveland Safe and Cleveland Key & Security: “After 47 years, they’re kicking us to the curb. It’s become a challenge for the last month and a half trying to find office and warehouse space. And we have to since we’re the primary vendor for the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. We need to stay within a certain radius of where we are now.”

Sushi Kuwahata is reopening in Ohio City with slight tweaks.
Food & Drink | By Douglas Trattner
Sushi Kuwahata, an exclusive sushi den in Ohio City, abruptly shuttered in February after less than one year. But now, in a stunning turnaround, those owners have announced they will reopen Sushi Kuwahata in the same Ohio City space.
Chef Kwan said that he was approached by the building’s new tenant to resume his business in the same second-level space.
Small Tweaks: Instead of the typical three-hour, 17- to 20-course, $350 dinners, the new iteration will be 15 to 17 courses, $300 and closer to two hours in length.
New Area: Also, a second room on the same level will become Kuwahata Lounge, an intimate tasting-menu restaurant serving Japanese small plates.
That should come online in June but Chef Kwan is planning to reopen Sushi Kuwahata in late April.

From the Editor
Taco week is here, and you can't miss it. Two of my favorite locations are Ohio City Burrito and 1942 Tacos & Tequila.
Speaking of food, it is great to see that Sushi Kuwahata is returning. Having it open gives Ohio City another yummy place to eat. And what I read from Douglas Trattner, it seems worth the wait and the price.
