Cleveland's top 15 safest suburbs.

News | By Jaden Stambolia

Every year, we reach out to 76 police departments that cover the Greater Cleveland suburbs to obtain crime data and the number of officers each department deploys. We take that data and rank the community for safety as part of Best Places To Live issues.

No. 1 Community: Broadview Heights, with a population of 19,768, has a violent crime rate of 0.40 per 1,000 people in 2025. That crime rate helped them jump from No. 17 last year to No. 1 this year.

  • Key Stats: The community had no rapes, murders and aggravated robberies, but it did have eight assaults. Its nonviolent crime rate per 1,000 people in 2025 was 1.77.

Top 5 Newcomers: Olmsted Falls (No. 2) and Moreland Hills (No. 5) were both ranked in the top 5 of last year's safety rankings. Joining them are Hinckley Township (No. 3)  and Kirtland (No. 4), both of which rose from outside the top 10 to inside the top 5.

A trend among the top 15 in safety was that none of them had a murder in 2025. The following communities round out the top 15.

  • Berea (No. 6);

  • Brecksville (No. 7);

  • Willowick (No. 8);

  • Chagrin Falls (No. 9);

  • Aurora (No. 10);

  • Fairview Park (No. 11);

  • Oakwood Village (No. 12);

  • Highland Heights (No. 13);

  • Bay Village (No. 14);

  • Mayfield Village (No. 15);

 Longtime Cleveland Brown Joel Bitonio calls it a career.

Sports | By Jaden Stambolia

At the beginning of his career, Joel Bitonio had Joe Thomas to share the offensive line with and to learn from for about four seasons. Thomas, a Hall of Famer, retired in 2017; Bitonio would go on to play nine more years leading the Browns' offensive line.

Accolades: The 2014 second-round pick was named to seven straight Pro Bowls from 2018 to 2024.

  • Bitonio also earned two NFL First Team All-Pro and three Second Team All-Pro nods.

The Numbers: Bitonio played 6,481 consecutive offensive snaps from the 2017 to 2023 season, making 102 consecutive starts.

  • He had 178 total starts in his career, putting him ninth all-time in most games played as a Cleveland Brown.

Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam: ā€œI would argue very strongly that he’s a Hall of Fame player. In terms of quality of play, games played, etc.ā€

In the settlement, the clinic is pledging $2 million for detransition care and will not provide gender-affirming care at the pediatric level for 20 years.

From the Editor

Larchmere PorchFest is one of Cleveland's most unique music events of the year, and it's got a great lineup of local acts scheduled for Saturday. I recommend checking out sets by Hello!3D, Black Voltron, Anya Van Rose and The Zerbo Brothers for an energetic mix of tunes that will keep you moving.

I also recommend taking the opportunity to visit some incredible Larchmere shops, like Loganberry Books, Adun Spice Co. and Fiddlehead Gallery, for a taste of the eclectic, artsy neighborhood at the core of this beloved event. - Annie Nickoloff, Senior Editor
