Shuffleboard exists somewhere between mini-golf and go-karts on the competition scale — mild enough to create a spark but not so nutso that it unleashes your inner Olympian. “You’ll hear couples hooting and hollering trying to win the game,” says Jim Miketo, owner of Forest City Shuffleboard. “The game and the venue itself have a ton of great conversation starters.” (The disc, for example, is known as a “biscuit.”) But it’s about more than just a game at the Ohio City spot, which offers a list of cheekily named cocktails such as the Hot Shotty, buckets of beer and a rotating kitchen that features a different restaurant or chef each month. “At some point, you’ve got to show your date everything and put it all on the table,” says Miketo. 4506 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, 440-821-1578, forestcityshuffle.com
After: Win or lose, a scoop of Mason’s Creamery’s taro ice cream, a sweet and nutty Southeast Asian-inspired flavor made from a root vegetable, puts a cherry on top of any date. 4401 Bridge Ave., Cleveland, 216-245-8942, masonscreamery.com #FunAndGames #OldSchool #Expensive
