Two Greater Cleveland suburbs will welcome new employers after the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved job creation tax credits for companies investing in both communities.
In Euclid, Monteferro USA, a manufacturer of elevator guide rails and a subsidiary of Canadian Rail Guide Corp, the only elevator guide rail manufacturer in North America, will occupy 83,411 square feet of the Bluestone Business Center 2 at 26555 Bluestone Blvd. The company plans to hire 40 people, generating about $1.94 million in new annual payroll, backed by a 1.118%, six-year tax credit. Ohio beat out Indiana and New Jersey for the project.
In Solon, Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company, a defense and aerospace pyrotechnics manufacturer, is moving into a 125,000-square-foot former Keithley Instruments plant at 28775 Aurora Road. It plans to hire 75 people with an expected $5 million annual payroll, supported by a 1.420%, eight-year tax credit. Ohio competed with New York, North Carolina and Oregon for the project.
Combined, the two companies are investing roughly $685,000 in facility renovations and must maintain operations at their locations. for at least nine to 11 years as a condition of the credits.

Salute to America at Blossom Music Center | Music | July 3
Blossom’s traditional, star-spangled celebration with the Blossom Festival Band returns this evening with a mix of marches, patriotic favorites and an Armed Forces Salute. Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field | Sports | July 2-5

Grindstone Festival at Coe Lake | Festival | July 4

Light up the Lake at Voinovich Park | Festival | July 4
This free Fourth of July celebration will begin at dusk over Lake Erie from the Port of Cleveland. Organizers suggest viewing from Settlers Landing, Flats East Bank, Superior Viaduct, Voinovich Bicentennial Park, Kirtland Park, Gordon Park, Edgewater Park, Whiskey Island and other parks throughout the city. The Cleveland Museum of Art's new juried exhibition, Lake Effect: Artists from Cleveland Now, drew 1,700 submissions from 950 regional artists — and 66 works made the cut. The free show runs July 9 through Dec. 6 at Transformer Station, 1460 W. 29th St. in Hingetown.
b.a. Sweetie Candy Company is marking its 75th anniversary with something extra sweet: The Cleveland candy institution has transitioned to employee ownership through a newly established ESOP.
The Cleveland Browns are finalists for ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year Award, recognized for their youth football, education and community equity work across Northeast Ohio. The winner will be announced at the Sports Humanitarian Awards on July 14.
A lauded joint proposal by Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren would lift the Social Security payroll tax cap to address the program's looming 2032 insolvency, which would cost Ohio's 2.2 million recipients an average of $487 a month.
