Brucato Gourmet’s sauces ($7.89) are labeled “pizza” as a homage to owner Dane Wujnovich’s Sicilian grandfather’s specialty. But the deep, rich flavors in his two offerings — spicy and sweet — are more versatile than simple pasta or pie toppers. “It’s almost like a condiment to people,” says Wujnovich. The full-flavored sauces, created by Joseph Brucato in the 1950s from family recipes, are built with extra-virgin olive oil and flecked with pecorino Romano cheese, a rarity in jarred sauces. The sweet variety is spiced with black pepper, while the spicy balances cayenne with parsley for a pleasant, humming heat.
