Then, Kate Voegele’s appearance in season five of the CW network’s One Tree Hill, portraying upstart singer-songwriter Mia Catalano, boosted total sales of her debut album from a mere 800 copies (yes, as in less than 1,000) to nearly a quarter million.
The 22-year-old Bay Village native has since graduated from MySpace Records to Interscope — a label with a heavy-hitting artist roster that includes No Doubt and Sheryl Crow. She returned to One Tree Hill last November. With a follow-up album on the way, it was a chance to reconnect with the audience that responded to her music so strongly the first time around.
Voegele’s upcoming appearance on One Tree Hill’s May 18 season finale will serve as full-court press promotion for her new release, A Fine Mess. During the episode, Voegele’s real-life album, single and tour will be promoted as Mia’s fictional one.
Are you following this? Don’t worry, the kids will.
Voegele’s new album goes on sale May 19, the morning after the One Tree Hill season finale airs, and her summer tour, which started April 24, makes its Cleveland stop at the House of Blues’ Cambridge Room on May 6.
