Soar To New Heights On The Steel Vengeance

Cedar Point's new ride is a record-breaker

Old is new again at Cedar Point thanks to Steel Vengeance. Using the 161-foot-tall Mean Streak as its base, the amusement park has created a hyper-hybrid steel-and-wood roller coaster that celebrates the best of both worlds.

After shutting down in 2016 for a conversion, the new and improved ride slings you into the action, breaking 10 world records as the tallest and fastest hybrid roller coaster at 74 mph and 205 feet high. Seasoned fans of the Mean Streak shouldn’t expect that nostalgic, rickety round trip.

This bad boy plunges riders down a 90-degree first drop, then whips them upside down four times with nothing more than a lap bar, ricocheting in and out of loops for a topsy-turvy thrill ride. “It’s massive. As you walk up to it, it just looms over the skyline,” says director of communications Tony Clark. “It has the most airtime — that feeling of weightlessness — of any roller coaster on the planet.” 1 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky, 419-627-2350, cedarpoint.com
