An Asian-fusion band plays above the din of a crowd set aglow by bulbs strung over Rockwell Avenue, the spine of Old Chinatown. The downtown skyline shimmering in the background says you’re in Cleveland, but get deeper into the scene and you’re transported. Giant squid sizzle on a brazier. Honeydew bubble tea and Koko Bakery sweets tempt even the most timid eaters, while around 40 artisans hawk felt toy sushi sets, dragon’s head pottery and more in English and Japanese. Modeled after Asian night markets, the monthly summer festival rolls culture, commerce and cuisine into one futomaki-sized evening.
