Where Have All The Treats Gone?

One big drawback of our casual dining approach is the lack of fancy desserts.

Where have all the treats gone? Turns out there’s one big drawback to all this casual food flair on display around Cleveland. The luxurious delicacies that have come to bookend the perfect meal are an afterthought — if they exist at all. While places such as the Greenhouse Tavern are still whipping up desserts such as the Dobos Torte ($8), a vanilla chiffon cake with chocolate balsamic buttercream, balsamic caramel and vanilla anglaise, simpler spots we love such as Banter Beer and Wine forgo any dessert options. Luckily, dessert-focused destinations often save the evening, such as Coquette Patisserie with its Le Bonbon ($7), a chocolate-coated pastry made with chocolate mousse and chocolate meringue or Sweet Moses Soda Fountain & Treat Shop, known for its Gordon Square sundae ($7.50), a brownie covered in bananas Foster ice cream, warm caramel and hot fudge. While we’re all for sporting jeans and T-shirts to nosh on $2 tacos or a hearty poutine as we guzzle local craft beer, we still want a little sugar at the end of our meals.
