Let go of your Eggo because the only waffle you need is from AsiaTown’s Ball Ball Waffle.
“These waffles are very popular in Hong Kong, which is where I’m from,” says owner Aldous Lau. “But when we got to Cleveland [in 2017] and didn’t find any, we started planning.”
Lau and his staff arrive each morning to mix the egg, milk, sugar and flour-based batter and then cook each waffle to order in a special bubble waffle iron. More than 10 sweet and savory flavors stack the menu. There’s classics, such as mega chocolate and cheese, but Lau doesn’t stop there.
The Oreo chocolate waffle ($6) is filled with crushed Oreos and condensed milk and drizzled with chocolate syrup, while the red bean ($7) is a sweet option that resembles a sweet potato. Add a scoop of ice cream ($1) for some extra sweetness.
“It’s my dream to do what I do,” Lau says. “Bringing these waffles to Cleveland is introducing them to my home.” 2999 Payne Ave., Suite 126, Cleveland, 216-282-3834, facebook.com/ballballwaffle
