Cold pizza for breakfast? Kick it to the curb for something a little zestier, and start your day with Zaytoon Lebanese Kitchen’s manousheh flatbreads.
When David Ina decided to open the Playhouse Sqaure spot in 2017, there was no doubt the authentic flatbread would be a menu essential.
“[It’s] one of the most common breakfasts in Lebanon,” says Ina, who is a first-generation Lebanese immigrant. “Growing up, eating these was just second nature. They were always around.”
The flatbreads, which come in a few topping varieties, are made using from-scratch dough that arrives crispy on the outside and delightfully chewy inside. The avocado za’atar manousheh ($3.49) is tangy and refreshing, topped with ripe cherry tomatoes, sliced avocados and fresh mint, while the lamb manousheh ($6.99), which includes lamb confit, garlic, feta and tomatoes, is a hearty indulgence.
“Manousheh translates really well with our customers that just want something quick and grab-and-go,” says Ina. 1150 Huron Road, Cleveland, 216-795-5000, zaytoonlebanesekitchen.com
