Shawnda Moye uses the word “deliciousness” a lot when talking about her flaky, buttery, Southern-style biscuits.
“I truly believe food brings people together, and I am passionate about providing deliciousness to people,” she says.
Reminiscing about the mom-and-pop biscuit shops in Tennessee and Georgia, where she lived while working in corporate sales, Moye started to consider the lack of tasty, homemade biscuits in Cleveland.
Disappointed in fast-food options, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning a bakery and launched CLE Biscuit Heads in August 2019. The pop-up shop specializes in hot, steaming buttermilk biscuits — crispy on top and perfectly fluffy inside.
Every day, Moye and her growing street team sling biscuits until noon (or until they run out) at Six Shooter Coffee in Collinwood, with additional locations announced on Instagram. We’re smitten on all three options from Moye and her crew.
The Humble ($4), a simple biscuit, comes served plain or with your choice of spread such as local honey or blackberry jam from the Home Pantry. The Cinny ($4), a dessert-like confection, is topped with a sugary-sweet glaze and a hint of orange zest. While the piece de resistance, the Sammy ($7), comes loaded with thick-cut bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs and creamy pimento cheese.
“[The biscuits] are so simple,” says Moye, “but I think people really relate to something homemade that’s so fresh and so good.” clebiscuitheads.com
