There’s a lot a basketball jersey can accomplish. When cover band The Players Club chose the uniform as its trademark, they were inspired by the energy of ’80s NBA juggernauts, donning Larry Bird’s vibrant emerald and Michael Jordan’s immortal crimson. The sportswear has been a slam dunk.
“People go ‘Hire that basketball band,’ ” says manager and drummer Jay Crypt, who dons Julius Erving’s ABA New York Nets gear. “They don’t even know what the hell we play, they just want the basketball band.”
Luckily, the band has the chops to back up the brand. Since 2013, the tireless party-soundtrack specialists have played close to 100 shows per year to rave reviews. With an eight-hour repertoire of the “best dance songs of the last 50 years” and choreographed light shows, the Players Club know how to (NBA) jam.
“Every part of our visual performance is meant to soak people in,” says Crypt. “We really get them into the moment.” theplayerclubohio.com
