We experienced all the feels during the Stand Up To Cancer break at this summer’s MLB All-Star Game at Progressive Field.
But it wasn’t until we saw pitcher Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco, who had recently disclosed his own leukemia diagnosis, standing with his Cleveland Indians teammates Francisco Lindor, Carlos Santana, Shane Bieber, Brad Hand and manager Terry Francona, that we knew this was a singularly special moment.
“It was unbelievable,” says Carrasco, who made his return to the team in September.
Thankfully, Homage and the Indians partnered on the “I Stand For Cookie” T-shirt ($32) inspired by the event, so we can keep reliving the feel-goods. Using the team’s block C logo, the shirt comes in Tribe-friendly blue or red. Thanks to input from Carrasco himself, part of the proceeds funds cancer research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.
“For me it was really nice to see a lot of people supporting it to get that money to go to the hospital for research,” he says. “It means a lot to have support from the fans, my family and friends, my teammates and the community in Cleveland.” 235 Main St., Westlake, 440-925-4178; 300 Park Ave., Suite 154, Orange Village, 440-588-8008, homage.com
