Fun never dies. After 27 years, Steve Presser closed his vintage toy store in Cleveland Heights and teamed with Tom Scheiman, owner of B.A. Sweetie Candy Co. to start a new wave of joy with Sweetie’s Big Fun. Located across from the greenway in the Pinecrest shopping center, it holds more than 1,200 kinds of colorful candies, with sugar cigarettes, Laffy Taffy and 12 kinds of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups plus an old-fashioned soft-serve ice cream window. A rainbow of more than 200 local, international and joke sodas (think pickle-flavored pop) line the back wall under a 1968 Volkswagen bus decked in a trippy paint splatter. There’s magician’s sets, Rubik’s Cubes and magic eight balls. “Life is so crazy and so tough that a lot of us need to put aside all that anger and hate and get lost in here,” says Presser. “This is a place where you come shopping and leave smiling.” 10 Park Ave., Suite 108, Orange Village, 216-371-4386
