It’s not the Terminal Tower or West Side Market, but you know you’ve seen it dozens of times. Old Fashion Hot Dogs, which closed in March, takes on an air of mystery when shot by Detroit-native photographer Dave Jordano. This haunting photo, along with 13 more, is part of (Human) Landscapes: Photographs by Dave Jordano, a Transformer Station exhibit that runs now through Jan. 3.
The Hingetown museum’s founders, Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell, invited Jordano to Cleveland in the summer of 2019 to photograph the city at night. “We asked him, ‘Explore Cleveland at night and see what you find,’ ” Fred says. The resulting photos, such as a bodega with illuminated neon signs or an industrial building with a single lit window, are full of character and beg the viewer to wonder about the story behind the images.
“This is the forgotten Cleveland that you tend to drive by and don’t really look at closely,” Fred says. “But when you do stop and look, it’s beautiful.” 1460 W. 29th St., Cleveland, 216-938-5429, transformerstation.org
