The sleek, black Styrofoam to-go boxes from Black Box Fix add an air of mystery to its gourmet sandwiches with Creole and Cajun twists. Traditional favorites such as a chicken Philly with sauteed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese gets a welcome kick from Creole jumbo shrimp on top. Carryout has been the spot’s only option since chef and owner Eric Rogers opened the Legacy Village spot in 2017.
But the lack of dine-in offerings hasn’t kept us from lining up for the spot’s signature sandwiches or street food takes, including french fries topped with steak and lobster, or the Cajun-fried corn smothered with Cajun cheese sauce, house-made ranch, cotija cheese and scallions.
“We definitely create food that’s indulgent,” says Rogers. “That’s why we call it a ‘fix,’ because it’s food that once you try it, you’re definitely going to want more and more of it.”
Try This: The OMG 2.0 ($14) embodies a three-course meal all neatly squeezed into a tasty brioche bun, with grilled chicken, buttered lobster, jumbo shrimp, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, onions, peppers and a side of spicy crab mayo.
