Simple is the name of the game at Luchita’s Mexican Restaurant. The key to the dishes here is its history, many of which have been on the menu since the original family opened Luchita’s in 1982. The philosophy for the menu has always been the same: authentic Mexican cuisine that has been passed down for generations.
“Our focus is mainly to do authentic Mexican food. We try not to stray too much from the original family recipes,” says co-owner Jessica Anper. “A lot of our menu hasn’t changed in the past 40 years. The staples have stayed the same.”
The tacos de carne asada — added to the menu almost 10 years ago — is as traditional as it gets. With corn tortillas warmed up perfectly, the three double-wrapped tacos you get are stuffed with thin slices of marinated grilled rib-eye, topped with fresh cilantro and served with onions and lime wedges. On the side you’ll also find a slightly spicy, yet thick salsa verde, which has been made in-house since the restaurant opened, as well as a hearty black bean dip.
“I think this dish represents the simplicity of Mexican cooking,” says Anper. “It just showcases that if you use fresh, good ingredients, you don’t need a whole lot more.” 3456 W. 117th St., Cleveland, 216-252-1169, Luchitas.net
