Six million. That’s how many pierogies Jennifer Harrah, Pierogies of Cleveland’s chief pierogi pincher, estimates she has pinched closed over the last 10 years.
With experience like that, you know you’re about to bite into some expertly prepared pockets at the company’s Richfield and Middleburg Heights locations (a new Medina outpost opens this month).
“The perfect pierogi is just making sure there’s no filling in your seams,” Harrah says. “They’re so time-consuming to make that once you boil them and they fall apart, the next time you do it, you really make sure you’re making them right.”
With more than 36 flavors available daily, such as potato and cheddar, lasagna, sweet cream corn or sloppy Joe, the hardest decision you will have is choosing which option to have for dinner tonight. We love the chicken paprikash pierogi ($8 for six) with its hearty filling of white and dark chicken, spices, cream and butter. Try serving it with Pierogies of Cleveland’s house-made paprikash sauce that the eatery sells by the jar and a side of green beans.
“[Eating pierogies] reminds people of their childhood,” says Harrah. “I eat them every day and I never get tired of them.” 6869 Pearl Road, Middleburg Heights, 440-842-3017; 4131 W. Streetsboro Road, Richfield, 330-659-4309, pierogimarket.com
