While Railroad Brewing Co. has only been open since March, it still holds onto a homegrown rustic charm. Modeled after laid-back Colorado Springs breweries, this Avon hangout takes shape in a former barn with reclaimed railroad spikes that function as taps for six made-in-house brews. Crafted in a 10-barrel system, brews such as the Crooked Rail ($6 for 16 ounces), a maple brown ale made with roasted barley and seven gallons of fresh Chardon maple syrup, uses locally grown ingredients. “We’re trying to keep it simple,” says brewmaster Jerome Moore. “Sometimes if you make things too complex you can really mess it up.” Wine and spirits from neighboring breweries such as Sibling Revelry Brewing, Paper Moon Vineyards and Watershed Distillery also make appearances, keeping the heart of Ohio alive. Our Pick: Named after a local fallen soldier, the 13th Warrior ($6 for 16 ounces) holds its own as a light German-style hefeweizen. 1010 Center Road, Avon, 440-723-8234, railroadbrewingcompany.com
