The smell of freshly baked bread greets customers every time they enter Herb ‘n Twine on the western edge of Ohio City. The shop opened in 2015 as a spot where customers could pop in for a filling, yet affordable, dining experience.
“We build each sandwich with sweet, salty and umami-type flavors so that it’s a good meal where you get your money’s worth,” says owner Brendan Messina. With an open kitchen in the rustic industrial space, you can see the bread baking daily.
But be warned: When they’re out, they’re out. With only six tables seating 12-15 customers, 50%of its business is built on takeout. But if you’re planning a visit, you still need to be careful of the midday rush. “We definitely encourage our customers to call ahead so they can skip the wait, grab their sandwich and get out of there,” says Messina.
Try This: The smoked turkey club ($10) isa top-seller with house-smoked turkey breast topped with Gouda, spinach, maple smoked bacon, marinated onions and a sun-dried tomato mayo.
