Keeping it kosher just got a lot easier. Kantina, which opened in the Hillel Building on the Case Western Reserve University campus in January, serves a menu of kosher soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and more. While kosher guidelines mean no bacon or mixing of meat and milk, there’s plenty for foodie Jews and gentiles to enjoy. We kicked things off with the apple and beet salad ($6.99), a sweet and earthy combo of fruit and vegetable on mixed greens that gets a subtle Asian tang thanks to a soy and honey vinaigrette. The savory deli variation P.L.T. ($8.99), which stands for pastrami-spiced chicken, lettuce and tomato, hits the table on warm house-baked bread and saggi sauce — a sweet, sour and spicy aioli. But for a crispy taste of a European favorite, the Ya Gotta Try the Schnitzel ($8.99) improves upon a breaded and fried chicken cutlet full of flavor and texture by serving it on a chewy house-baked roll with saggi sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onions and pickles. While Kantina takes the guesswork out of kosher, the menu is still loaded with tough decisions. 11303 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 216-231-1079, kantinakatering.com
