From classic breakfast to peach cobbler battered frech toast, you won't leave hungry.
While some may argue whether breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we’re just here to eat. Some days it’s eaten quickly while rushing out the door, but we enjoy those moments when we can saddle up to a table filled with hearty helpings of eggs and pancakes. That’s why you’ll find us frequently heading to Portion right off Public Square. Rich Cerchi, owner of East Fourth Street’s Wonder Bar, opened the spot in March with a menu focused on morning treats and dishes that cater to the lunchtime crowd buzzing around Tower City Center. Early risers can start the day off with the CLE breakfast ($8): three eggs, diced potatoes with cheese and your choice of bacon or sausage. Our favorite part was the accompanying fragel — a deep-fried bagel — that’s all at once crispy and chewy. Lovers of shrimp and grits will equally fall for the bacon and grits ($6) with Southern-style cheese grits so full of flavor and dotted with hunks of bacon that you won’t miss the tender crustaceans you’re used to. Those with a sweet tooth can start the morning off with the peach cobbler battered French toast ($8). Covered in pancake batter before taking a dunk in the fryer, the decadent slices are topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, sliced peaches and pecans. With options like this, breakfast will always be our No. 1. 2013 Ontario St., Cleveland, 216-713-0850, portioncle.com
