It'ss been a while since we’ve had brunch — a proper out-of-the-house, sit-down-with-friends brunch. And we’re not alone. After opening The Sleepy Rooster in January, owners Craig and Sarah Fitzgerald have seen hungry guests gather at their Chagrin Falls diner in droves. Whether you come here for breakfast, brunch or lunch, you’re bound to find something on the menu full of familiar favorites dressed up with housemade touches.
Fans of goetta — a German breakfast meat made of pork, beef, onions, spices and steel-cut oats — will find it incorporated into a few dishes. The chorizo hash and eggs ($11) may seem straightforward, but a citrus-herb gremolata brightens what is normally a heavy dish. It doesn’t get much better than Craig’s Benedict ($13), a layered dream that starts with a fresh biscuit (not an English muffin, but trust us) and ends with your choice of protein (go for the smoked salmon). Each gooey bite, paired with a strong cup of coffee, reminds us of how much we’ve missed our midmorning meal.
