Why they’re interesting … Bozich and Carroll have been decorating and making cakes for half their lives even though they have no culinary training. The pair, who went to art school, now run the popular White Flower Cake Shoppe in Beachwood.
Perfect partners … They have known each other since middle school, started decorating cakes together in their teens during a stint at Dairy Queen and now rely on their different strengths to run the business. “We’re like a yin and a yang,” Carroll says.
Worthy competitors … Bozich and Carroll have appeared on the Food Network’s Cake Challenge four times. The themes have included Cirque du Soleil, horror movies and Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary.
Most interesting cake … The pair once made a wedding cake that honored how the couple met — after she discovered and returned his wallet. It was an exact replica of the wallet, including the business card that had the groom’s contact info.
Favorites … Carroll loves their carrot cake with cream cheese frosting while Bozich opts for the chocolate peanut butter or pistachio. Bozich likes to bake cakes that look like food, and Carroll likes to work with luster paint to create a vintage look.
Famous clients … The East Side shop is the official cake-maker of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bozich and Carroll have made a stack-of-waffles birthday cake for LeBron. Bozich says she’d like to make a giant cake version of Shaq’s shoe.
