Jennifer Coleman
It was a pleasure to meet Jennifer Coleman, the Gund Foundation’s program director for Creative Culture and Arts. Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts in architecture from Cornell University and, prior to joining the Gund Foundation, was president of her own design firm: Jennifer Coleman Creative. Earlier in her career, Jennifer served on the Cleveland Landmarks Commission, the Downtown/Flats Design Review Committee, and the Group Plan Commission. She also founded CityProwl, a company that produced audio walking tours describing interesting aspects of Cleveland’s architectural history.
King Quality Produce
This month, King Quality Produce celebrates 40 years at the West Side Market. It's always a joy to see Aimam Ebrahim, Maha Mikhael, and Mikhael Ebrahim engaging with shoppers, offering fantastic deals on fruits and vegetables. Congratulations to the family on this monumental milestone, and here's to many more years of buying from them!
Shore Restaurant
Shore Restaurant is a cherished local institution, renowned for its exceptional food and friendly service. Established in 1986 and located at 12009 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, this family-run restaurant makes each customer feel like part of the family. Stop in and say hello to the Skantzos family – Angelo, Tina, Steve, and Mike.
Davis Bakery
During my visit to Davis Bakery & Delicatessen on Chagrin Boulevard in Woodmere, I had the pleasure of meeting Cindy Davis and her son Jay, who represent the fourth generation of their family to run this beloved bakery since its founding in 1939. They graciously showed me around the shop and shared insights into the array of homemade delicacies made in-house each day. It's heartening to see this establishment thriving, cherished by generations of Northeast Ohioans for its unwavering quality and enduring presence.
Touch of Class
I recently visited Touch of Class Tailors located at 200 Public Square and had the pleasure of meeting the remarkable Toni Cummings. With 50 years of tailoring experience, including ten years in this location, this life-long Clevelander stands as one of the few tailors remaining in downtown Cleveland. Self-taught and still utilizing her original Singer sewing machine, Toni consistently delivers exceptional craftsmanship. For anyone seeking a master tailor, I highly recommend visiting Toni not only for her professional work but also to hear her captivating stories.
Matt Underwood
It was wonderful to catch up with Matt Underwood during his visit to the Cleveland Public Library, where he delved into the Library’s extensive baseball research collection. Matt has been a broadcaster for the Cleveland Guardians for 25 seasons, with 18 of those years spent providing play-by-play commentary alongside American former center fielder Rick Manning. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed listening to Matt and Rick call games for the team over the years, and I'm consistently impressed by Matt’s deep knowledge of baseball history.
Himalayan Restaurant
Located at 13124 Lorain Road in Cleveland, Himalayan Restaurant specializes in delicious Nepalese and Indian cuisine. During a recent visit, I had the opportunity to speak with owner Narayan Pradhan, who is from eastern Nepal, about how he came to open this remarkable establishment in February 2020. During each of my many visits since then, I have been consistently impressed by the quality and variety of the offerings. I highly recommend exploring the menu and supporting this delightful addition to the Cleveland restaurant scene.
