It came out when I was in college, and it really helped me understand how deeply I love the music that I love. In a lot of ways, it really sent me on my career. To this day, I use that book all the time. ... vacation destination: It’s always a beach. — w. Whatever beach entices me at the moment.

>> I own too many: I don’t think that’s true of me. I’ve got thousands of CDs and LPs, but I would not say I have “too many.”
>> In high school I was ... In all the plays. My favorite role was Cromwell in A Man for All Seasons. I was the villain.
>> My passion: Musical theater. I was first exposed to it when I was in kindergarten and my parents let me stay up late to watch Mary Martin in Peter Pan on TV. And I still remember that experience.
>> My best feature: I really care about the lives of my friends.
>> My first kiss: It was wild, because I was in kindergarten. It was my next-door neighbor, Nancy Clifford. It was pretty terrific.
