It appears that the best is yet to come for the Willoughby House, formerly known as the historic Van Gorder Manor, as its Oct. 8 “Peek at the Progress” event unveils exciting future plans for the property, including a first-floor restaurant, all-new guest suites and a restored event space.

New Ownership
Since 2017, the Van Gorder Manor located at 37819 Euclid Ave. Willoughby, Ohio 44094 had been abandoned, previously operating as an assisted living facility. The estate was then purchased by brothers Michael and Paul Neundorfer in June of 2022 with the shared goal of repurposing the property, and the historic beauty that lingered, for use as a renovated inn, restaurant and event space. Now under new ownership, the estate has been named “Willoughby House.”

Peek at the Progress
Attendees of the Oct. 8 event were allowed small-group tours of the property in its under construction state featuring the Main House and Carriage House. The Main House — currently under construction — will house the incoming restaurant, Julia’s 1902, which will occupy the main floor. The new fine dining restaurant is expected to open in March of 2024 with partner chef Jose Coronado at the helm.

The second and third floors of the Main House will offer a total of seven guest suites once construction is complete. However, The Carriage Suites located behind the Main House are currently operating for both short- and long-term guest stays with three individual two-bedroom suites.
Fun Fact
As of July 24, the estate has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is listed as the Julia F Boyce Country Estate, with the current owners being Mike and Paul Neundorfer.
