Jill Marie Paulsen

Executive Director, Cuyahoga Arts & Culture

Education: Master’s degree in nonprofit management, Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Business; bachelor’s degree in sociology and French, Grinnell College

Favorite Quote: “We all do better when we all do better.” — former United States Senator Paul Wellstone (MN)

What Motivates Me Right Now: The 300-plus nonprofits that we fund through Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. So many of these creative leaders are running complex businesses in uncertain times. Whether they’re small, volunteer-led groups or neighborhood anchors employing hundreds of people, the best Cleveland arts and culture nonprofits put residents at the center. Their commitment to our community motivates me to run a public agency that is reliable and embraces the full diversity of our arts ecosystem.

My Leadership Style: I aim to be a servant leader who works for justice and expects results. Sustained and real change doesn’t happen through one person or one organization.

What Would Surprise Someone to Learn About Me: I’m a professional women’s soccer superfan! My daughter and I travel across the country to catch matches.

A Cleveland Spot I Recommend: The Cleveland Public Library Main branch on Superior Avenue
