Designed by renowned Cleveland architect Peter van Dijk, Blossom Music Center opened in July 1968, earning rave reviews for both its acoustics and bucolic surroundings.
This year, Blossom heats up its summer concert series by celebrating its 50th anniversary as the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra, with blockbuster performances featuring legendary frontman of The Who Roger Daltrey July 8, cellist Yo-Yo Ma Aug. 12, and a live soundtrack screening of Star Wars: A New Hope Aug. 31-Sept. 2.
“Our hope is to celebrate the orchestra and the relationships it has made over the last 50 years,” says Ilya Gidalevich, orchestra artistic administrator. “We also want to elevate music that is not entirely in our wheelhouse but occupies an iconic place in our culture.”
