While we’re unsure when Gov. Mike DeWine will allow restaurants to fully reopen, many have decided to get back into the takeout and carryout game since temporarily closing in March. With a dedicated focus on new strategies, processes and policies for takeout and delivery there are new options out there to add to your ordering-in lineup.

Here are three places we love followed by a list of restaurants re-opening. If you’re a restaurant owner or chef and would like to have your restaurant added to this list, please email dining editor James Bigley II at bigley@clevelandmagazine.com.

Boss Chick N Beer
When Heather Doeberling opened Boss Chick N Beer in October 2018, demand for delivery was high — and now, it’s finally happening. Beginning May 1, Doeberling’s famous crisp, baked and golden fried chicken wings will be available for curbside pickup and delivery to any city that touches Berea’s city limits. To prep for the new operation, all the packaging has been upgraded to reheat food a day or two after ordering, so stock up: even the chicken tenders, dredged in buttermilk for 24 hours before fried to order, are worth sharing. “The biggest thing for us is that we didn’t want our employees to stop believing in us and trusting us,” says Doeberling. “We have one chance to reopen and really do it right.” 120 Front St., Berea, 440-532-7660, bosschicknbeer.com

Tommy’s
Known for an abundance of unique sandwiches and handspun milkshakes this Coventry restaurant is doing a complete overhaul. Rather than rely on walk-in orders, Tommy Fello is inviting back 47 of his 60 employees to man a phone bank for processing orders, creating milkshake stations throughout the restaurant to meet demand and having teams of runners armed with walkie talkies delivering food curbside. The idea: expedite the ordering process for a restaurant that’s remained largely the same since 1972. “It’s a whole new ballgame starting back up,” says Fello, who will open seven days a week beginning May 4. “We’re just fortunate we have so much room here at the restaurant that we’re able to do stuff like that.” 1824 Coventry Road, Cleveland, 216-321-7757, tommyscoventry.com

Tremont Scoops
A spoonful of ice cream makes everything feel better, and while we may not be able to relax on the in-store swings at Tremont Scoops, we’ll certainly be able to grab any mix of 16 different flavors such as fudge brownie, vegan cookies and cream and more on-the-go. Although they were slated to open on April Fools’ Day, owner Paul Weinzimmer waited to open up shop until April 24 after putting policies in place that allow four customers in the store at any one time. “I was watching the coffee shops I would go to and other places you could walk in and get food and drink, and I thought, If a bar could do to-go drinks safely, I feel like I could do to-go ice cream the same way,” he says. 2362 Professor Ave., Cleveland, 216-781-0352, tremontscoops.com
