With its five tiers of massive concrete slabs nestled into 3,000 feet of Lake Erie coastline, Lakewood Park’s Solstice Steps are like a futuristic Mayan hillside temple with a view that stretches for miles. The $2.1 million project transformed what once was a landfill into a structural marvel that opened in October and has its own geographic tag on Instagram with more than 200 pictures taken there. The scene is a popular all-season spot to sit and reflect, but don’t miss June 21’s Solstice Day with live music, food trucks and telescopes for stargazing. “Our world comes at us hard and fast these days,” says Lakewood mayor Michael Summers. “We don’t do a good job of taking time to think and reflect. One of the goals of these steps was to create that opportunity.” 14532 Lake Ave., Lakewood, onelakewood.com
