And Another Thing (13)

What did you do on your summer vacation? As we mentioned in August (“Going Global”), Cavaliers arena announcer Olivier Sedra traveled to China to put his voice to work at the Olympics. When we checked in with him upon his return, he told us he ended up working Team USA basketball games against Spain and Germany and announced — in both French and English — the women’s basketball team’s run for the gold. Sedra had always wanted to ply his deep baritone at the worldwide competition, and says the experience lived up to all the daydreaming. “It gives you goosebumps,” he says. “I would take off my headset and just look around. It was amazing.” The job also gave him the opportunity to see Chinese life up-close: a mother washing her child’s hands, a group of men playing cards on the street. “It’s such a busy place, [but] at the same time, it’s regular,” he recalls. “I’m glad I got to share it. I don’t feel like I was alone there.” To read more about Sedra’s trip to China, check out the blog he kept at cavfanatic.com/olivier.
