Mike Randall and his cousin, Dan Randall, had become famous among the Browns faithful for their practice of donning french fry container costumes on game day to show support for their fellow University of Akron alum ("Best of Cleveland," October 2006). But it turns out the pair decided to discontinue their Frye-guy schtick back in June, long before the season started. Mike Randall stresses that it wasn't out of diminished loyalty to their fellow Zip.
"I do some side things for a couple of the NFL players, so I ended it because of that," he says. "I didn't want to have a Frye outfit just representing one player."
Randall says he wishes Frye the best in his NFL career and hopes the fresh start will help the "great guy, great competitor."
"I support the Cleveland Browns with any decision they make, because I love this team," he says. "I just want to win."
Randall is still in the stands this season, he's just taken his act solo. You'll see him holding court in the end-zone stands as Dawgpound Mike. (He's the one wearing the hat that looks like a jumbo dog biscuit.) He also has a new Web site, www.dawgpoundmike.com, that has already attracted more than 61,000 visitors.
"It's all about fun and representing the Cleveland Browns," he says. "I bleed orange and brown. That's why I do what I do."
