The number of customers swarming My Generation during its store-closing sale made it hard to believe the West Side institution couldn't survive ("For the Record," April 2004). After all, this place was so beloved that the owner printed T-shirts marking the store's end-of-April demise. As a final salute, Rolling Stone even selected My Generation as the featured local record store on the back page of the music magazine's "Immortals" issue. Parma's Quonset Hut location met its end in late April, as well, in that case due to the landlord's decision not to renew the record store's lease. Employees told us the landlord is booting them in favor of national sandwich chain Quizno's. And while we appreciate the consistency of only wanting to fill the space with businesses beginning with the letters "QU," we'd much rather have the store with the great music selection.
